Description
Tasty Pott Spelt Flour 630 | Ground Spelt | Natural Product | Vegan Flour Alternative What is spelt flour? Spelt flour is flour made from ground spelt. Spelt (Triticum spelta) is an ancient wheat variety and one of the oldest cultivated grains. Compared to modern wheat, spelt has a tough hull that protects the grain from external influences. Spelt flour has gained popularity in recent years as it is considered a nutritious alternative to conventional wheat flour. Compared to wheat flour, spelt flour has a higher content of protein, minerals, vitamins, and fiber. Some people with a wheat intolerance find they can tolerate spelt flour better, although it is important to note that spelt also contains gluten, albeit in a slightly different form than in modern wheat. What does Type 630 mean? The designation 'Type 630' refers to the degree of milling of the flour. This classification is particularly common in Germany and indicates how finely the flour has been milled. The higher the number, the more components of the grain the flour contains. The following applies to Type 630: - Type: 630 - Milling degree: 63% - Description: A fine flour obtained from the inner part of the grain. The number '630' means that 63 percent of the grain was used to make this flour, while 37 percent, mainly the outer hulls (bran) and the germ, was removed. Accordingly, Type 630 is a whiter and finer flour compared to flour with a higher milling degree. Because Type 630 contains more starch and less fiber, it is particularly suitable for fine dishes such as cakes, cookies, muffins, and other sweet pastries. It produces a lighter dough and a delicate texture in baked goods. What is spelt flour used for? Spelt flour is used in a wide variety of dishes and pasta, similar to wheat flour. Due to its nutritional properties and slightly nutty flavor, spelt flour is considered by many to be a healthy alternative to traditional wheat flour. Here are some common uses for spelt flour: Bread and rolls: Spelt flour is well-suited for making bread and rolls. It can be used alone or in combination with other flours to achieve different textures and flavor profiles. Cakes and cookies: Spelt flour can be used in many baking recipes as a substitute for wheat flour to make cakes, cookies, and muffins. It adds a fine texture and nutty flavor. Pasta: Spelt flour can also be used for making pasta, either alone or in combination with durum wheat semolina. Pancakes and waffles: Spelt flour can be used in pancake and waffle recipes to add a distinctive flavor to these breakfast foods. Pizza: Spelt flour is well-suited for making pizza dough and can be an interesting variation on traditional pizza flour. Crêpes: Spelt flour can be used in crêpe recipes to give these thin pancakes a slightly nutty flavor. Pastries: Spelt flour can be used in various pastries such as puff pastry, strudel dough, and dough for sweet or savory pies. Spelt flour 630 from Tasty Pott. Recipe for wholemeal spelt bread with Tasty Pott spelt flour Ingredients: - 500g Tasty Pott wholemeal spelt flour (type 630) - 1 sachet of dried yeast (or approx. 6/7g of our Tasty Pott dried yeast) - 1 teaspoon of salt - 1 tablespoon of olive oil - 300-350ml lukewarm water Preparation: 1. In a large bowl, mix the Tasty Pott flour, dried yeast, and salt. 2. Add the olive oil and gradually stir in the lukewarm water until a smooth dough forms. The amount of water can vary depending on the flour variety, so add it gradually. 3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is elastic. 4. Place the dough back in the bowl, cover with a damp tea towel, and leave to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until it has doubled in volume. 5. Remove the risen dough from the bowl and knead briefly again. 6. Pour the dough into a greased bread pan and smooth it out. 7. Cover the bread again and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes. 8. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. 9. Bake the bread in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes or until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. 10. Remove the bread from the oven, let it cool and then slice.
