Description
  • The papaya tree, Carica papaya, not only provides delicious fruit with health-promoting seeds, but its leaves and stems also contain many valuable substances. This makes the plant, which is botanically called a melon tree but is actually neither a tree, nor a shrub, nor a perennial, but rather a tree-like herb, a versatile remedy and a superfood. The palmately lobed leaves are arranged spirally around the single trunk and can reach a size of up to 80 centimeters. In its wild, original form, the papaya comes from Central America; as a cultivated plant, it is grown in almost all tropical and subtropical countries, as well as in Australia and Africa. The country with the largest production is India. Leaves with a powerful effect: Papaya leaves contain many vitamins and minerals, but above all, large quantities of the enzymatically active plant compounds papain, chymopapain, carpaine, lysozyme, lipases, and acetogenins. Among other things, they can break down the protein ingested with food into usable amino acids, thus promoting digestion. Constipation and bloating are alleviated, and harmful putrefaction processes and damage to the intestinal wall are prevented. They also play a valuable role in fat digestion, which is why papaya leaf tea supports weight loss. On the other hand, it also stimulates appetite if you are underweight and want to gain weight. Vital Digestive Enzymes: Enzymes control many bodily processes; a deficiency, especially of digestive enzymes, can have serious consequences and lead to illness. Without enzymes, vitamins and minerals are not properly absorbed, and hormone metabolism does not function correctly. The digestive enzymes in the mouth, stomach, pancreas, and intestines are specialized for specific substances and break down food. Some are responsible for proteins, others for carbohydrates. There are also protective enzymes, such as diamine oxidase (Dao), which is responsible for breaking down excess histamine. A lack of enzymes can easily lead to food intolerances. Papaya leaves can counteract an enzyme deficiency, which manifests itself in a variety of ailments. They not only break down protein and fat, but also inflammatory and metabolic products, cleanse the intestines, and strengthen the immune system. Laboratory studies have observed that papaya enzymes strengthen the body's defenses against diseased cells. Its positive properties have long been known. The papaya probably arrived on the Australian continent in the 17th century. In Asia, papaya leaves are part of traditional medicine. In many places, they are used for malaria prophylaxis. Scientists attribute the antiplasmodic effect against the malaria-causing parasites (Plasmodium) to the alkaloid carpaine contained in the leaves. In Indonesia, papaya leaves are used to strengthen blood vessels. Indian researchers have demonstrated that carpaine plays a positive role in increasing the number of platelets. This effect could also be beneficial in cases of dengue fever and other illnesses.
  • The enzyme complex in papaya has a general anti-inflammatory effect, combating inflammation of all kinds.
  • Liver Detoxification
  • A tea made from papaya leaves also promotes liver detoxification. Here again, it is the enzymes that support liver cell regeneration by stimulating the production of somatropin, the growth hormone that builds liver cells and regenerates existing ones. In any case, papaya is recommended to support the liver, the most important organ for detoxifying the body.
  • Papaya Leaf Tea
  • A tea is traditionally prepared from papaya leaves: boil three tablespoons of leaves with one liter of water, let it simmer for a few minutes, and then let it steep for a few more minutes. Or pour boiling water over the same amount of leaves and let it steep for several hours. Then strain and drink a cup three times a day.
