Xylometazoline hydrochloride.
Areas of application:
-Nasal Spray/Nasal Drops Adults/Children: To reduce the swelling of the nasal mucosa in the event of a runny nose, episodic runny nose, allergic runny nose. -Nasal spray adults and children; Nasal drops for children additionally: To facilitate the drainage of secretions in the case of sinus infections and middle ear catarrh in conjunction with a runny nose. -Nasal spray adults; Nasal drops adults are for adults and school children. -nasal spray children; Nasal drops children are intended for children aged 2 to 6 years.

The preparation is a cold remedy (rhinologic, alpha-sympathomimetic).
The active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride has vasoconstricting properties and thus causes a decongestion of the nasal mucosa.
The medicine is used
to reduce the swelling of the nasal mucosa in cases of a cold, paroxysmal runny nose (rhinitis vasomotorica) and allergic rhinitis (rhinitis allergica).
to facilitate the drainage of secretions in the case of inflammation of the paranasal sinuses and in the case of middle ear inflammation (catarrh of the tubal middle ear) in conjunction with a runny nose.
The preparation is intended for children between 2 and 6 years of age.
The medicine must not be used
if you are allergic to xylometazoline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
if you are under suffer from dry inflammation of the nasal mucosa with crust formation (rhinitis sicca).
in infants and small children under 2 years of age.
Always use this medicine exactly as described or exactly as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is
For children between 2 and 6 years of age, you can apply 1 spray into each nostril up to 3 times a day.
Do not exceed the recommended dosage and duration of use!
Duration of use
Do not use the medicine for longer than 7 days without medical advice.
Re-application should only be carried out after a break of several days. The duration of use in children should always be consulted with your doctor.
Use for chronic colds may only be used under medical supervision due to the risk of loss of the nasal mucosa.
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.
If you have used a larger amount than you should
In the event of an overdose, inform your doctor immediately. Poisoning can occur due to significant overdose or accidental ingestion:
The clinical picture of poisoning with this preparation can be confusing, as phases of stimulation may alternate with phases of suppression of the central nervous system and the cardiovascular system.
Symptoms of stimulation of the central nervous system are anxiety, agitation, delusion and convulsions. Symptoms resulting from the inhibition of the central nervous system are low body temperature, lethargy, drowsiness and coma.
The following symptoms may occur:
Dilation or constriction of the pupils,
Nausea, vomiting,
Blue discoloration of the skin,
Fever, sweating, paleness,
irregular heartbeat, palpitations, too fast or too slow heartbeat, Cardiac arrest,
Increase or shock-like decrease in blood pressure,
Accumulation of fluid in the lung tissue,
Breathing disorders, respiratory arrest.
Especially in children, overdoses often lead to central nervous effects with cramps and coma, slow heartbeat, respiratory arrest and an increase in blood pressure, which can be followed by a drop in blood pressure.
In the case of poisoning, monitoring and therapy are required in hospital necessary.
If you forget to use
Do not use a double dose if you forget the previous application. Continue using the dosage as prescribed or as described above.

Like all medicines, the preparation can have side effects, although not everyone gets them.
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
Increased swelling of the mucous membranes after the effect has subsided.
Nosebleeds, Sneezing.
Effects on the heart and circulation, e.g. E.g. palpitations, increased pulse rate, increase in blood pressure.
Hypersensitivity reactions (skin rash, itching, swelling of the skin and mucous membranes).
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
Headache, insomnia, fatigue.
Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):
Mallucinations (hallucinations), especially in Children.
Cardiac arrhythmias.
Cramps, especially in children.
Burning or dryness of the nasal mucosa.
If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects that are not specified.
Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the medicine,
if you are taking certain medicines to treat depression (monoamine oxidase inhibitors [MAOIs]) and other medicines that may potentially increase blood pressure.
if you suffer from increased intraocular pressure, especially angle-closure glaucoma.
if you have a serious cardiovascular disease (e.g. long QT syndrome, coronary heart disease or high blood pressure [hypertension]).
if you suffer from a tumor of the adrenal medulla (pheochromocytoma).
if you have metabolic disorders such as: B. If you suffer from an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or diabetes (diabetes).
If you suffer from an enlargement of the prostate gland.
If you suffer from or have previously suffered from one of the above-mentioned diseases, ask your doctor before using the product. Your doctor will carefully weigh the risks against the benefits of using the medicine.
Note:
Please note that long-term use of mucosal decongestant cold medicines can lead to persistent (chronic) swelling and ultimately loss of the nasal mucosa.
Long-term use in children should be avoided. Higher dosages may only be used under medical supervision.
Ability to drive and operate machines
With long-term use or higher dosages of this medicine, effects on cardiac and circulatory functions or the nervous system cannot be ruled out. In these cases, the ability to drive a motor vehicle and operate machines may be impaired. Please note in particular that alcohol will make your ability to drive even worse!
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Pregnancy
The medicine should not be used during pregnancy as there are insufficient studies on the unborn child.
Breastfeeding
It should not be used during breastfeeding as it is not known whether the active ingredient or its Decomposition products pass into breast milk.
The dosing spray is intended for use in the nose (nasal application).
Please remove the protective cap. Before the first use, pump several times until an even spray mist emerges. The dosing spray is ready for immediate use for further applications. Hold the dosing spray bottle as vertically as possible and pump it once per nostril. Breathe in gently through your nose while spraying. For hygiene reasons, wipe the spray head after each use and put the protective cap back on.
Use together with other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using other medicines, have recently taken/used other medicines or plan to take/use other medicines.
If the product is used at the same time as
certain mood-enhancing medicines (MAOIs of the tranylcypromine type or tricyclics Antidepressants) as well as
medications that increase blood pressure
can cause an increase in blood pressure due to their effect on the heart and circulatory functions.
