Description
  • Greek Coffee 100g
  • Greek coffee is a type of mocha. The term "mocha" has two meanings. On the one hand, it refers to a specific type of coffee from Ethiopia, and on the other hand, it's a general term for very strong coffee. Greek coffee is an example of this.
  • For decades, it was called Turkish coffee, which is actually correct, because the Turks brought this drink to Greece. It has only been called Greek coffee since the mid-1970s. In Greece, it is prepared in a small, long-handled pot made of aluminum, copper, or brass, called a briki. Its preparation requires very finely ground, powdery coffee, sugar, a small gas flame, and a bit of finesse. The mixture of water, sugar, and coffee grounds is brought to a boil either over the gas flame or on the stovetop. Opinions differ on whether the mixture should be stirred for a while before boiling, or brought to a boil twice. Greek coffee is drunk either sketo (without sugar), metrio (with a spoonful of sugar), or gliko (sweet). The brewed coffee is poured, without filtering, into small cups or glasses and then carefully sipped. True connoisseurs leave behind clean coffee grounds. The preferred times for a Greek coffee are in the morning, instead of breakfast, and in the late afternoon, when one's energy gradually returns after the long midday heat. Greek coffee is served plain or sweetened and traditionally with a glass of water. Combined with candied fruit, sweet jelly confectionery (loukoumi), or honey-soaked pastry and nut cakes (baklava/kataifi), the Greek coffee break is perfect.
